Candle has to be lit by the person who wants to be energetically cleared and affected. ONLY by this person directly. 
Candle has to burn-out within 9-days from the moment its being lit for the first time. 
Burning candle has to be placed in the same room / location where the person is. Maximum 5m diameter. 
Before each burning, trim the wick of the candle. Use a tray or candle holder for burning the candles. Do not burn them in a drafty room or in closed containers. Observe larger gaps between individual candles, when using them in a composition.
